In a recent article on Cooking from the Heart by Bumble and Lilly, a member of The Delicious Italian Cuisine blog, I wrote: “If you ever want to really put your finger on what Italian cooking is all about, take a look at the recipe for the Lemon Meringue Pie. This is a must-try Italian recipe for a true lover of this Italian cuisine.”
To me, that is a perfect definition of what Italian food is all about – with a few caveats. If you are searching for a perfect Italian recipe that “feels” like home-cooked Italian food, you won’t find it with that statement. On the other hand, if you want a little-known, tantalizing dish that begs to be shared, well…you know where I’m headed with that one.
Although, like many of the recipes in Bumble and Lilly’s book, the Lemon Meringue Pie is a “throw together” recipe. What that means is that the ingredients to make the pie is found at any grocery store. Everything else is purchased at the health food or discount grocer. In fact, there are those ingredients in the picture in the book which can be found in your pantry as well.
The name for this recipe is one that is reminiscent of the wonderful flavors of this country, but that’s not all the great thing about this delicious Irish recipe. The place it was adapted from is Italy. Since so many of the ingredients are Italian, the flavor of that country shines through in every bite.
That brings us to the second “flaw” of the recipes. The recipe calls for the use of coconut milk in the meringue. By far, the most common ingredient for a coconut milk meringue, coconut milk is also one of the most preferred.
However, using coconut milk makes for a thin and unappealing meringue. Coconut milk, in this recipe, simply doesn’t deliver the same delicious taste. And to get the most flavor, you may even want to add some cream and/or a little bit of sweetener.
Still, no matter what is added to these recipes, these delicious Irish recipes will remain one of the most popular dishes in the world. There is simply nothing else like it.
What about the recipes for the pizza? There is nothing complex here – just a basic tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, garlic, basil, and some basil olive oil. You can also add any of the other ingredients suggested by Bumble and Lilly and still have a fabulous tasting dish.
Perhaps one of the most common questions I receive is how to make the recipes for the delicious Irish recipe for Chicken Parmesan. This Italian recipe has been in use since the late 1700s. I once searched for it online and couldn’t find it anywhere, even though I tried several different variations.

A person asked me if I could find it online and I did, and I found that it was a popular Italian recipe back then. There is no reason why it wouldn’t be a popular one today.

This dish can be easily prepared in advance and will keep for several days, if properly wrapped. And, since you can eat it as is or change it up. By adding something to it, you’ll never go wrong.
So, while the lemon meringue pie and the pizza are my favorite Italian recipes. I give this delicious Irish recipe high marks for being a delicious Irish recipe, too. It is a dish that was created in honor of a son of an Irish immigrant. But it is in every sense Irish, and it represents our culture and heritage traditions. with its family-style flavor.
